The son of Prince Buster is actually recording with Lester Sterling.

Sultan Ali, son of ska legend Prince Buster, is currently working on a project with saxophonist Lester Sterling, lone survivor of the Skatalites band.

According to Ali, he and Sterling have been close friends for several years. Though he lives in Los Angeles and Sterling in South Florida, he said they correspond regularly.

He declined to give details about their project but said it is a song fans are familiar with.

Sultan Ali"It's a special rendition of an all-time Jamaica classic which at this time I will not name," said Ali.

Sterling, who is in his early 80s, rarely records and performs due to ill health. He was a member of the Skatalites' vaunted three-pronged sax combo which also included Cuba-born Tommy McCook and Roland Alphonso.

Ali, who has been recording since the late 1970s, is also working on an album of original and cover songs.

He has been doing a number of shows, the most noted being the Clockenflap Music & Arts Festival which took place November 25-27 in Hong Kong.

Ali is the first ska artiste to perform on that event which attracted over 30,000 fans.

"The last six months have been very creative, a musical rhapsody, lots of radio interviews in the UK," said Ali, whose latest songs are Beautiful Angel and Love, Kindness, Joy and Happiness.
