"I always wanted to build a solo career so I can express myself the way I want"

To rocksteady fans, Keble Drummond will forever be associated with The Cables, a soulful trio that recorded the classic songs Baby Why and What Kind of World.

Both were done in the late 1960s for producer Clement Dodd's famed Studio One label.

Drummond, who lives in Florida, is doing well with his latest song, Watch This Sound, a cover of rock band Buffalo Springfield's classic 1967 hit, For What Its Worth.

His version, produced by Danny Breakenridge of Upstairs Music, is in the South Florida reggae charts.

"I'm not surprised, I always have the confidence in every song I sing because that's where it has to be first, then it's up to the fans and the public. That is why it's important to do songs that are inspiring and can relate to a cause," said Drummond.

The 68-year-old Drummond has lived in the United States for nearly 40 years. He went solo after leaving The Cables in the mid-1970s and has since recorded several singles.

In 2013, he released Mellow Moods of Music, his first solo album.

Late last year, he and Breakenridge cut Watch This Sound based on Slim Smith's rocksteady version which was produced by Bunny Lee in 1967.

At the time, he was lead singer of The Cables, one of the revered harmony groups of the rocksteady era.

Watch This Sound is a strong comeback for Drummond who lives in Fort Lauderdale.

"I always wanted to build a solo career so I can express myself the way I want to as an artiste but that doesn't stop me from being the lead singer of The Cables. Keble Drummond will be Keble Drummond solo and The Cables will still stand as The Cables," he said.
