Close friends and members of the music fraternity, attended the dinner reception hosted by Anthony “Chips” Richards himself to celebrate his recent achievement. Chips, who along with Dennis Alcapone recently received the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation award. The medal, awarded every five years was awarded to both along with sixty five other individuals for their contribution and growth and development of various facets of Jamaican life and culture.

They had the distinction of being the only two persons awarded in the music category this year. Unlike Dennis Alcapone who is widely known in the local music circles, Chips was more active in promoting and introducing reggae music to a wider audience in the UK, Brazil, Japan and several other countries around the world through his work with Trojan Records. After departing Trojan Records, he subsequently continued this work on his own promoting reggae music.

The dinner reception which was held at the Jamaica Pegasus on May 4th was attended by several key industry players which included The Minister of Entertainment & Culture, Hon. Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, Bunny Lee, Blackbeard, Barry Biggs, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, Leggo, King Sounds, Carlene Davis, Tommy Cowan and Lloyd Parks.
