Djanta Biography

Singer, songwriter, composer and also beat maker, Djanta is a multitalented artist who passes easily from Reggae to Dancehall in the pure Jamaican tradition. The foundations of this music inspire him, but he also gives his compositions some HipHop, Soul or R’n’B flavors, as well as an electronic touch. His signature is very personal and breaks with the dated clichés too often associated with Reggae. He positions his music as Urban Reggae, which expresses his respect of Jamaican culture’s fundamental values while asserting his European and modern identity. The latter is strengthened by his inspirations from numerous travels. His very name comes from this culture without borders: Djanta means "Lion" in a dialect from Benin.

The richness of cultures and the wealth of languages quickly and naturally brought him to sing in English, a language partly chosen for its universality and accessibility. Djanta gives rhythm to his compositions by also inserting Jamaican patois, which he learned from a young age. He went to Kingston, Jamaica where he met a lot of musicians, singers and producers who helped his development, invited him to share their daily lives and had a deep impact on his comprehension and vision of music.

Djanta always seeks quality in his lyrics and his songs sound like poems. He addresses themes of daily life, share his perspective on things without being moralizing and give his impressions of the society, as he understands it as he is passing through his experiences.

His album, with the significant title “CONSCIOUS ENTERTAINER”, is the fruit of a meticulous work and was built through multiple collaborations. Coproduced by the producer/video director Dameon “DX” Gayle from the label “Warrior Mu-Sick” (Damian & Julian Marley, Busy Signal, Konshens, Romain Virgo, Luciano, Fantan Mojah…), the album features Luciano, Lutan Fyah, Fantan Mojah and the musicians from the outstanding band Raging Fyah, who co-composed and interpreted in the studio the tracks and ideas suggested by the French artist.

The album quickly convinced Musicast, the French distributor who gave Djanta a national distribution deal. He toured with THE WAILERS as opening act on the French part of their tour and the Reggae Sun Ska festival booked him two years in a row, just to mention a few.

Djanta walks in the footsteps of founding European artists such as Gentleman, Alborosie or Patrice, and some media see in him the lawful and long-awaited "representative of the French touch on an international level..." (Unity Station - Radio Laser / Party Time).

On stage, with his acoustic show, in soundsystem or backed by his full band, Djanta invites the audience on a journey with a music that is as loyal to Reggae classics that it is contemporary. Djanta appeals to mind, body and soul. Djanta is the "CONSCIOUS ENTERTAINER".
