The event attracted several UK artistes, European reggae bands and sound system selectors. The week long festival was filled with various activities which included workshops, a beauty contest, concerts and a beach party.
Among some of the highlights were performances by John McLean, Swiss band Najavibes, conscious DJ Macka B, Sister Audrey, Tippa Irie and one of UK’s finest rhythm section duos Mafia and Fluxy. Swiss sound system selector Asher Selector delivered some heavy dubs and selection. One night of the festival saw many of Ariwa’s top artiste delivering some of their hits. Sandra Cross, John Mclean, Leroy Simmonds and Earl 16 all represented the Ariwa label well.
The final night saw Frankie Paul backed by Mafia and Fluxy tearing the place down and bringing the crowd to their feet. Though not advertised locally, the attendance progressively increased every night as the event drew patrons from the surrounding communities. With some minor adjustments to the stage production, the Back to Africa Festival will in a few years be one of the premier events on Africa continent.

I was privilidged to be part of this festival, however I must say it has been tainted by one of the officiators Ms Morgan, dispicable behaviour towards another... Cyber Bullying is a crime!!!....This is what I have witnessed on Facebook recently coming from an 'adult' Woman!! not a child: - malicious, spiteful, mean, nasty, hateful, malevolent, malignant, bitter, acrimonious, rancorous, venomous, vindictive, defamatory, slanderous, scandalous, rotten, bitchy words.. from one fellow Jamaican/african woman to another:- I am deeply ashamed, the sister needs to ask God for forgiveness....and stop this reign of hatred and folks need to stop encouraging her it is a disgrace to the black race..... Sorry my brothers but this had to be said, too many people are afraid to speak up..... As she is an employee of Ariwa this needs to be dealt with as some speed.. Thank you |

Wonderful article which is truly reflective of the good times we had at the Festival. I am so proud to have been part of it, and I never missed a night. Contrary to the report above using the psuedonym "Sanghor Kansas" aka Velma Wright, Ms Morgan has been exemplary, superb. She ensured our well being from start to finish and was always on hand from promoted, which she did with passion, till the day we left. I've read Velma Wrights diatribe and scandalous cowardly attacks hiding on Facebook hiding behind names like Vee Vacious, Velma Wright, Back to Roots Sangohor, (Sanghor) Kansas. Having stolen funds from Mrs Morgan and ran back to England. She was the only one in Duty Free paying for her alcohol with £20 notes and her shorts hitched up in her backside despite -16 temperature in London. She should apologise to Ms Morgan and go to church to repent for her deviant behaviour. |
