Aswad is a roots reggae uk trio composed of Brinsley "Dan" Forde on vocals and rhythm guitar, Angus "Drummie Zeb" Gaye on vocals and drums, and Tony "Gad" Robinson on bass. They deliver a typical uk reggae in the same style that Misty in Roots and Black Slate.
The band, who was formed in England in 1974, has realised greats albums such as “Aswad” , “Hulet”, “Live & direct” and “Jah Shaka meets Aswad in Addis Abeba Studios”. The trio has proved that even good roots reggae used to exist not only in Jamaica but also in Europe. In the early 90’, Aswad knew a international success thanks to the “Rise & Shine” tune. In 2002, Forde left the group, Drummie Zeb and Gad continue as a duo. Aswad is a band with an eclectic discography composed of very good albums and more commercial ones!
