Jah Mason is one of the best known actual conscious singjay and songwriter. Born Andre Johnson in 1970 in the Parish of Manchester, Jamaica, he recorded his first single Selassie I Call We for Junior Reid’s JR Recording label under the name of Perry Mason. He changed for Jah Mason when he joined Capleton’s David House. Several artists as Mason, Moses I or Military Man hailed from The Prophet’s foundation, a place for Bobos to medidate and a kind of musical school welcoming ghetto youths. In the same time, Mason was also part of Tony Rebel’s Flames Productions. Since his beginnings, ‘Iyah Mason Fyah Mason’ delivers lyrics for justice, equality and unity. Devoted to Rastafari, he’s commited to the Bobo Shanti order. After releasing many singles, his first album, Keep Your Joy came out in 2002. Since this first effort, the Jamaican is a prolific artist. He’s probably one of the singjay who features on most of riddims and releases never less than one album each year.
