Colour Red ( born Clive Hylton, 1956, Jamaica, West Indies) moved to Kingston with his family when he was 10. He began his career in the 70’s with Lee Perry, recording at his Blak Ark Studio. ‘Judgement Time’, one of the songs he recorded for The Upsetter, was then released. The other was a dubplate for the UK-based Coxsone International Sound System owned by Lloyd Coxsone. The special, titled ‘From Creation’, became an anthem among uk roots sound system fans, that has been inaccurately credited to Junior Byles. But in the 1990’s, Colour Red was acknowledged as the vocalist of the tune. The track has been versionned by Barry Brown and Don Carlos, who scored a hit with his recut produced by Blaka Dread.
For his first album Revelation Time released in 2000 on Jet Star label, the singer linked with UK producer and dub creator Russ Disciples to deliver a great modern roots and conscious debut set. Colour Red also released several singles for various labels as The Dubateers and Cultural Warriors.
