Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1956, Lincoln "Sugar" Barrington Minott is known as the "Godfather of Dancehall".
He began with sound system Sound Of Silence Keystone and then formed his own under the name of Black Roots. In 1969, he became part of African Brothers alongside Tony Tuff and Derrick Howard to finally record his first solo album Live Loving in 1977 for producer Coxsone Dodd. He also released several singles and albums on his Black Roots label, revealing many artists as Tenor Saw, Junior Reid or Yami Bolo with his sound system Youthman Promotion.
