Born in Brooklyn, USA, Thomas Williams aka Ras Shiloh is a conscious modern roots singer in the same vein as late Garnett Silk, his mentor. Shiloh is reminiscent of Silk but he’s not a simple clone.
He started alongside Ballys International sound system from New York and released in 1998 a promising debut solo album, Babylon You Doom. The follow-up wasn’t disapointing : After Listen Well (1999), From Rasta To You, produced by Donovan Germain for his label Penthouse, came out in 2002 on VP Records. The release - featuring his hits Are You Satisifed, Garnett Silk’s Complain cover, and Give I Strength (feat. Buju Banton)- revealed him to a larger audience.
Ras Shiloh is a good performer on stage, he didn’t released as much albums as some artists, but it always deals with quality vocals, intelligent lyrics, and good riddims. If it's not done, check out his last set Only Selassie (2007) and you will see that modern roots is still alive…
