The Usain Bolt Sports Bar, Tracks & Records came alive on the night of Tuesday, December 18th with the entrance of the ‘Reggae Princess’, and television host Etana. The venue has hosted reggae and dancehall’s best throughout the year including recent performances by Richie Spice and Freddie McGregor under its Heineken sponsored ‘Behind the Screen’ series. She entertained the audience with a solid performance (her first live performance in Jamaica this year) that lived up to the reputation of the series and the expectations of her fans and used her voice to remind all present that she had earned the moniker, ‘The Strong One’.
Backed by the Shiloh band and her backup singers Ruel and Tamekia Moncrieffe, she delivered several of her hits to a tightly packed audience. Singing for over an hour she treated the audience to several of her classics. The appreciation of the audience though present throughout her performance was evidenced by the sing-a-long chants of the crowd when she delivered the ever popular song Meditation. Her vocal prowess was evidenced in her performance and had many in awe as she channeled her deepest emotions through into her songs. The audience was equally responsive to Free, August Town, and Wrong Address. Along with her backup singer Ruel Moncrieffe she had the crowd enraptured when they did I Am Not Afraid then moved into Richie Spice’s, The Plane Land. Etana also performed new singles Reggae and Better Love which are soon to be released on her new album 'Better Tomorrow' by VP Records. With fellow artistes Shaggy and Queen Ifrica mingling with the crowd, the glee from their fans was evident.
The departing fans acknowledged that it was a splendid performance, and counted themselves among the fortunate that night.
