George "G.T." Taylor is back with his latest production, the Jump Start Riddim, an organic and rootsy creation showcasing five artists. Taylor is best known as a long time Irie-FM radio host and for producing the Christmas Extravaganza concert. He's produced other riddim sets such as City Beat, Belt, Steady Flow in recent years and on June 3 released a new compilation, The Best of GTMuzik, featuring I-Wayne, Sizzla, Beenie Man and others.
True to it's name Jump Start has an upbeat feeling and classic one-drop production elements including live drums, piano and bubbling organs accented by a harmonica riff through the choruses. Some big names step up to voice on the rhythm: King Shango a.k.a. Capleton delvers a chastisement to evils and wicked-hearted on "Mek Dem Gwaan," in which he cleverly advises to "mek den gwaan and listen more Wailers…listen more G.T. Taylor…" Rising roots vocalist Nature delivers a great ode to his island on "Jamaica," while Villa Dutch keeps it positive on "Give Thanks And Praise." The set is rounded out by Bobby Hustle's haters anthem "Walk and Live" and newcomer X-Hale's righteous "Hang Law."
