Tarrus Riley and his Blak Soil band ended his recent mini tour of the island at the Little Theatre. The concept of the mini tour was to bring ‘big’ artistes to ‘small’ intimate venues they would not normally have performed at. Though dubbed a mini tour, the audience was not denied the production experience of larger shows. It was clear that attention was paid to the details of the lighting, stage, acoustics and ambiance. The production was made possible by One Nation Event Entertainment in conjunction with Juke Boxx Production. The tour saw them stopping at Margaretville, Ocho Rios, Pier One in Montego Bay, Famous Night Club in Portmore and the final performance at the Little Theatre in Kingston.
The show at the LittleTheatre had all the trappings of an international tour. Such was the production and performance quality that one could easily feel that they were at the Brixton Academy in London or Radio City Music Hall in New York. The show was opened by Riley’s Blak Soil band followed by a superb performance by Duane Stephenson.
The man of the moment emerged on stage next and delivered several of his hits songs to his loyal fans. Crooning and engaging the audience it was obvious they would listen to him alone for the next several hours. However, in keeping with the concept of the tour, he invited on stage fellow artistes such as Iba Mahr, Chevaughn, and Junior Demus. It was the presence however of veteran DJ Papa Michigan of Michigan & Smiley fame that proved to be a pleasant surprise to many. If the measure of success of any show is the reaction of the audience, then this was a rousing success as it was obvious these patrons would spread the word (and maybe attend) the next mini tour featuring another great reggae artiste.
