Top Reggae Songs 2014

16 reggae personalities select their top ten tunes of 2014.

Sampler

End of the year means making lists and the usual way to do is to have editors and writers selecting their favorites throughout the year. This year United Reggae decided to do it another way, so we asked artists and producers around the globe to provide us with their top ten tunes from 2014.

We received 16 lists and they include mostly reggae, but also R&B, hip-hop, pop, soca and house. It’s quite easy to find two standout tracks, and both Stephen Marley, Capleton & Sizzla’s Rock Stone and Protoje & ChronixxWho Knows are in seven of the 15 lists. Well done. Two other recurring tracks are Magic!’s Rude and Notis & Iba Mahr’s Diamond Sox.

The songs selected in each list are in no particular order and choosing ten songs can be quite hard. So we naturally gave Jah9 a break when she told us that she didn’t listen to too many new songs this year and could only come up with five. Same goes for Duane Stephenson.

And it can also be hard to tell in what year a tune has been released. It often differs from different markets and different parts of the world. So you might find a tune or two that wasn’t released in 2014, but in 2013. We didn’t care. It’s just music.
