The Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) had its formal launch of Reggae Month on January 27th, at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Complex. Guests at the launch were advised that Reggae month would be celebrated with the presentation of more than twenty nine (29) events in the twenty eight (28) days of February.

The events include Reggae Wednesdays, JaRIA Live Tuesday and Open Universit. Open University is a forum for the discussion of topical issues such as the Impact of the Sound System, Women in Reggae and Legalize It – Reggae, Rasta and Ganja are some of the topics to be discussed. Other events include Reggae in Film on February 23rd, Stone Love for Lovers on February 14th (Valentine’s Day), Vinyl Thursdays, Dennis Brown Tribute Concert and the JaRIA Awards to be held on February 28th at the Courtleigh auditorium. The JaRIA Award is the hallmark event of the month, and will honor twenty one (21) individuals, selected for their contribution to the growth of Reggae Music.

Reggae Month is held every February in Kingston, Jamaica at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Center. With the exception of the awards ceremony all events are usually free. Among some of the artistes scheduled to perform over the course of the month at Reggae Month are BB Seaton, Michah Shemiah, Uprising Roots, Black as Kole, Alpa All Stars, Richie Stephens, Derrick Morgan, Roots Radics Band, Fusion, Pentateuch, Jah 9 and more.
