“It doesn’t matter if my albums don’t sell ten or twenty million copies, the important thing for me is that I am doing what I love”. This quote sums up why Barrington Levy has reached where he is in the music industry, and is an indication of his pure and genuine love for his craft.
Known as the man with the “Canary Voice”, Barrington Levy recently released his AcousticaLevy album on May 5th. The official album launch took place on Monday, May 11, 2015 at the South Beach Café in Kingston, Jamaica. After a hiatus of over 10 years the singer has joined the ranks of Richie Spice, Tarrus Riley and others in releasing a pure acoustic album. The album consists of fifteen (15) tracks, and is a compilation of several of Barrington’s chart toppers such as Under Me Sensi, Murdera, Prison Oval Rock, She’s Mine, Here I Come, Black Roses, Vibes is Right and several more done in an updated, refreshing acoustic style. The album also includes two new songs Times Hard and Life is Great which features German singer Patrice. Track 5 on the album, Prison Oval Rock which was originally intended as dub plate for Volcano Sound System before it became a record has a new and special added flavor to it. Under Me Sensi and Here I Come which were both massive hits in 1984 on the UK reggae charts for the singer and producer Jah Screw are also given fresh treatment and a new life to both songs.
All tracks were written by Barrington Levy with the exception of Vice Versa which was jointly written by Barrington Levy, Bob Thiele and Phil Roy. The album which was recorded at Mixing Lab features some of Jamaica’s finest musicians such as keyboard player Handel Tucker and C Sharp member and Tessane Chin’s ace guitarist Lamont ‘Monty’ Savory. The album also includes backing vocals by upcoming singer Stephanie Wallace, Anu Brian Gold, Ramona Lawla and Andrew Rowe.
AcousticaLevy is produced by Barrington Levy and Handel Tucker. It is administrated by Tafari Music and is being distributed by Doctor Dread, the former CEO of one of reggae’s largest independent label in the mid 80’s and 90’s, RAS Records.
