Following the International Reggae Day Conference held earlier in the day of July 1st, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The night’s activities were moved to The Countryside Club were several artistes performed in honour of the occasion.
This year International Reggae Day acknowledged the impact of the sound system so it was fitting that the night started out with music from Merritone Sounds System, followed by Mixmaster J from the UK and the legendary King Jammy’s. Awards were presented to Merritone, King Jammy & Stone Love for their contribution to the sound system and Jamaican music industry. This was followed by performances by several artiste including Cherine Anderson, Marlo Brown, Ken Boothe, DMedz, Samory I, Chuck Fenda, and Bushman who is rarely seen performing in Jamaica, Bennie Man, and Andrew Tosh were also included in the lineup. The night’s activities brought a fitting close to the 21st anniversary of International Reggae Day.
