Rising Kingston reggae artist Isha Bel’s new single, Too Much Duppy Stories, showcases the powerful, metallic-voiced singer and adds another fine cut to her growing body of work. Too Much Duppy Stories begins in a chant, moves into soul ballad, and then breaks out into righteous reggae as Isha Bel pleads for a more considered way of living. Kalinga Records has a done a great job in releasing a well-produced single that displays the undeniable talents of the inspiring singer.
Isha Bel’s distinctively crisp voice is instantly recognizable. She displays a remarkably wide her vocal range, clear at the high tones yet rich in the lower register. Her previous releases, such as This is Love (on the Naya Drama riddim) is a ballad and One Bag a Reggae (on Come Back Again with its Latin riddim styling), show a singer experimenting with a diverse range of themes, and she has a voice capable of going down diverse adventurous pathways. Reggae music seems to be the anchoring place in her urban and soul sounds.
This new single is an indication that a new voice is coming forward from the astounding and seemingly endless well of musical genius that is Kingston. Too Much Duppy Stories is another solid cornerstone in the work of a singer to watch.
