Samory I’s captivating and vibrant debut album.

Sampler

Jamaican singing talent Samory I – with a passionate vocal style slightly reminiscent of the late Garnett Silk – dropped his first single With You in 2014. I first heard of him a year later when he put out the excellent Take Me Oh Jah on Rory Stonelove’s Zeen riddim. That cut was later followed by strong efforts like Scepter on Go With Jah riddim, Ride On on Royal Step riddim and I Am Gad, which was featured on Silly WalksSmile Jamaica compilation.

Samory I - Black GoldFor his debut album Black Gold Samory I is back with Rory again. And the set is just as strong as their first single together. He manages to fulfil – and in some cases exceed – expectations so to say. Just listen to the spiritual Lost Africans, the soulful Not Because, the devout Serve Jah and the militant Suit & Tie.

Rasta Nuh Gangsta was the first single off the album. It was released in February and is one of the best songs put out so far in 2017. The deep grooves and serious vibes that Rasta Nuh Gangsta have are a big part of the album.

The riddims are no less than majestic and the cuts often come with long instrumental parts. It’s a solid musical journey with Samory I’s heartfelt vocals and conscious lyrics on top of it all.

Black Gold was supposed to have hit the streets in March, but was delayed until July. It was well worth the wait.
