Well done to Jamaican Jameik King on his ‘The Genesis’ EP release. Opening with the lively and considered ‘Together As One’ - that has it’s cut off Babylon - this prodigy of Tarrus Riley then tells us that he’s now ‘Chasing My Dream’, in a sentimental but uplifting song. The 6 track EP then moves to ‘One Step’, which is presented as ‘one step at a time’ – mighty good advice for all, from a man who’s ‘chasing his dreams’. And this good advice is delivered with grounded reality, whilst set to some sweet sounds.
The artist’s ‘Let Me Love You’ and ‘Paradise’ follow up tracks then slow the pace for romantic purposes. These two tracks effectively capture the high stakes and ecstasy (respectively) associated with romance and love. This sets the scene for another ‘Chasing My Dream’ (bonus track) in a dancehall style, with some heartwarming vocal coalitions bringing matters to a close.
All round this is a promising compilation and the market response so far is most encouraging. Nice one Jameik – you’re looking good for making that dream a reality.
