It was a sunny Sunday in Paris when Clinton Fearon invited us to the Maroquinerie for a great moment of music. The Parisian public was enthusiastic and the room electrified when the group came on stage.
Without wasting time, the Boogie Brown Band took it to a high level while playing their dub intro.
Clinton seemed happy to be in Paris, and his energy was high. The show began with Feeling the Same, from his album, 'Vision'. It continued with songs from his various albums ('Vision', 'Give and Take', 'Mi Deh Yah'). These were interspersed with hypnotic dub, during which Clinton played incredible instruments. The Backing band was impeccable, very tight, and they knew their instruments! Drummer Nelson Miller, who has worked with Burning Spear was the master of ceremonies. Saxophonist Izaak Mills (melodica, flute) sounded as if he was straight from a psychedelic fitness lesson ...
Bassist Alex George stood further back on the stage, but his presence was evident, his very powerful big bass thrilling the audience.
The tracks from the latest album released last year by Makasound ('Mi Deh Yah') had a strong stage presence in front of a live audience. Clinton's voice was beautiful, the tunes continued and the crowd didn't want it to end as he left the stage.
Clinton came back for an encore with his guitarist Mark Oi. He interpreted a song derived from his acoustic album 'Mi and Mi Guitar.' The whole band then entered the stage to accompany Mr Fearon. He told the audience "he can't forget his past" and chanted Chatty Chatty Mouth and Rich Man Poor Man from The Gladiators. This made the evening complete and good vibrations and love of music was felt throughout the venue.
