The first of the ‘Reggae Wednesday’ celebrations for Reggae Month, kicked off with ‘Bloodline, the Genesis’ on February 4th at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Complex.
The organizers chose the lineup of artistes in support of the theme, showing how reggae music has been successfully passed on from one generation of reggae greats to their children. The lineup included Freddie McGregor along with his son ‘Chino’ McGregor, Yeshemabeth and her mother Judy Mowatt. Renowned drummer, Ras Michael (from Sons of Negus) performed with his son Ras Michael Jr. and his granddaughter Kamsha. Not only was it the second time in Jamaica that members of their family have performed on the same stage, but they had the distinction of being the only family represented by three generations.
Songwriter/Singer BB Seaton, original member of The Gaylads performed in Jamaica for the first time in many years. With hits like My Jamaican Girl, Red Rose and ABC Rocksteady he was called back on stage for an encore which he obliged. Other artistes who contributed to The Bloodlines was Lloyd Parks and Ska great Derrick Morgan. They as usual turned in great performances.
