Upcoming Reggae Album Releases 2015

A number of big releases ahead and there are also some big compilations coming up in 2015.

All of our lists collecting best of 2014 are now published – top 50 reggae tunes, top 30 reggae albums, ten favourite reissues and five mighty fine EP’s.

So, what will happen musically in 2015? Judging from upcoming album releases we have heard about it could be a great year for reggae music.

There are a number of big releases ahead and there are also some big compilations coming up.

Below is a list covering all album releases we have heard about. Some are confirmed, while some are rumours and some not yet scheduled. Check the full list and you’ll hopefully be as wound up as we are.

Reggae albums in 2015

JANUARY

The Inturns – Consider Yourself (Pressure Sounds)
Reissue of this great album produced by Phil Pratt.

Jah Sun – New Paradigm (House of Riddim)
Follows his excellent Rise as One album released in 2013.

Marlon Asher – Illusions
Best known for his Ganja Farmer, this Trinidadian singer is now set to release his third album produced by Clear Port.

New Kingston – Kingston City (Easy Star Records)
Will include 12 songs and guest appearances by members of Tribal Seeds, Kimie Hawaii, Sister Carol, The Wailing Souls, and the late, great reggae legend Sugar Minott.

Stand High Patrol – A Matter of Scale
First single Sleep on It was released in December.

FEBRUARY

Alton Ellis - Many Moods Of (Iroko Records)
Originally released in 1980 and produced by Earl Morgan of The Heptones

Kiddus I & The Homegrown Band – Take a Trip (Iroko Records)
French reissue label releases a new album from legendary singer Kiddus I.

Lion D – Heartical Soul (Bizzarri Records)
Produced by Alborosie.

The Banyans – For Better Days…
Second album from this French roots band.

Niyorah – Rising Sun
Producers from Denmark, the Virgin Islands, Austria, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, France, New Zealand and Morocco have come together for this album.

Omar Perry – Be Cool (Tabou1)
Produced by Sly & Robbie and mixed by Dub-Stuy crew from New York.

Selasee & Fafa Family – Time for Peace
Reggae in a Ghanaian style.

Yabby You – Dread Prophecy: The Strange and Wonderful Story Of Yabby You (Shanachie)
Three disc compilation covering many aspects of this reggae legend.

MARCH

Black Symbol – Black Symbol (Reggae Archive Records)
Singles compilation.

Capital Letters – Wolverhampton (Sugar Shack Records)
First all new Capital Letters album in 30 years.

Exco Levi – Country Man (Penthouse Records)
It looks like Exco Levi finally will drop his debut album

Jimmy Riley – Live it to Know (Pressure Sounds)
Compilation of mostly self-productions from 1975 to 1984.

Micah Shemaiah – Original Dread (Descendant Music)
Second album from this reliable Jamaican producer and singer.

Protoje – Ancient Future (Baco Records)
The two singles Stylin’ and Who Knows, featuring Chronixx, have put the bar quite high.

Shaman Culture
French band ready to release their second album.

The Skints (Easy Star Records)
Produced by Prince Fatty and includes guest stars like Tippa Irie and Horseman.

APRIL

Restriction – Action EP (Bristol Archive Records)
British reggae band that called themselves Zion Band in their early years.

Rootz Underground – Return of the Righteous Vol. 1
Partly a crowd-funded effort that was supposed to be released last year.

Sizzla – 876
The album title refers to Jamaica’s telephone area code and the set is partly produced by Vychalle Singh of 868 Music, who was one of the producers behind The Messiah.

Wyman Low & The Ravers – Trippin’
French roots singer.

MAY

Jashwha Moses – The Rising (Sugar Shack Records)
Second studio album from this UK singer who released his first single more than 35 years ago.

Various – The Midlands Roots Explosion (Reggae Archive Records)
Compilation collecting vintage UK reggae.

TO BE SCHEDULED

Alaine – Ten of Hearts
Originally slated for release in 2014.

Alborosie & King Jammy – Dub of Thrones (VP Records)
Recorded and mixed using analogue equipment and vintage techniques.

Bitty McLean
Hits the streets in the second half of 2015.

Blend Mishkin – Survival of the Fittest (Nice Up! Records)
Greek producer that blends reggae with hip-hop and electro-fuelled styles. First single Settle Down features vocals by Jamaican/Canadian singer Exco Levi.

Brinsley Forde
Hits the streets in the second half of 2015.

Chris Martin
Signed with VP last year and is expected to drop his debut set during 2015.

Glen Washington (Zion High Productions)
Follow up to his excellent Masterpiece album.

Gregory Isaacs – Poor Man in Love
Hits the streets in the second quarter.

Gyptian
First single Stunta was released last year.

Keith Hudson – Rasta Communication in Dub (Greensleeves)
Dub counterpart to the excellent Rasta Communication.

Konshens – From the Hotel Room
Originally slated for release in 2014.

Lutan Fyah (I Grade Records)
Originally slated for release in 2014, but might have been postponed because Lutan Fyah released two other sets that year.

Nightdoctor (Reggae Archive Records)
Compilation of singles from this 80s UK reggae band.

No-Maddz – Sly and Robbie Presents No-Maddz (Taxi Records)
Several singles from this project have already been released, including the mighty Shotta.

Queen Ifrica (VP Records)
It has been kind of quiet from Queen Ifrica lately and hopefully she will put out the follow up to her acclaimed Montego Bay album, released in 2009.

Romain Virgo (VP Records)
Follow up to his smooth album The System, released in 2012.

Sabbatical Ahdah (I Grade Records)
Second album from this Virgin Islands-based singer.

Sly & Robbie – Funkattitude
Hits the streets in the second half of 2015.

Stephen Marley – Revelation Part 2: The Fruit of Life
Originally scheduled for release in 2011, but has been postponed again and again. Hopefully this year since the wicked single Rock Stone was dropped last year.

Taj Weekes – Love, Herb & Reggae (Jatta Records)
Here I Stand – first single off the album – was released last year and it had a rhythm leaning towards tango and blues.

Talisman – I-Surrection (Oldwah Deconstruction on Dub) (LP release) (Sugar Shack Records)
The CD and digital release was in 2014.

Uprising Roots Band – Black to I Roots (Tru Musik Records)
Two singles from this album dropped last year – Might Can’t Beat Right and Trench Town.

Various – Black Symbol Present Handsworth Explosion Vol. 1 (CD release)
The vinyl was put out in 2014.

Various – Bristol Reggae Explosion 4 (Bristol Archive Records)
Another volume in this exciting series.

Various – Jump Up – Early Studio One (Soul Jazz Records)
Early studio one material.

Various – Shalalak: Rockers Rebirth
Partly produced by Micah Shemaiah with artists from the Jah Ova Evil spiritual and musical movement.

Weapon of Peace – Weapon of Peace (Reggae Archive Records)
Reissue of their debut album, including bonus material.

Yellam – Musical Train (Irie Ites)
Debut album from this French singjay.
