Legendary veteran deejay King Stitt has died, according to Jamaica Observer.

King StittKing Stitt aka The Ugly One – in reference to his facial malformation and Sergio Leone’s western movie the Good, the Bad and the Ugly – came to prominence in the late 50’s and early 60’s and pioneered the Jamaican style of deejaying together with artists such as Count Machuki and U Roy.

He started working with Coxsone Dodd, but moved on and later in the 60’s he dropped a number of scorchers for producer Clancy Ecccles, including Fire Corner and Herbman Shuffle.

King Stitt died at the age of 71 and no cause of death has been given.
