News about reggae music, artists, culture and more...
It is three years since the Monterey Bay Reggaefest moved from its usual time of marking the end of the summer season on the Labour Day weekend to becoming a mid-summer event. In this short time the festival has grown to not only be the third largest festival on the Monterey Peninsula, but also to be a prominent recognised festival featuring international artists from around the world.
This year should prove no different with a blend of reggae stalwarts including Capleton, Maxi Priest, The Mighty Diamonds, Lloyd Brown, Glen Washington and one of the original members of the I Threes, Judy Mowatt.
There will be plenty of local talent on display as well, with amongst others, Tribal Theory from San Diego who have performed alongside other artists such as Steel Pulse, The Wailing Souls, Barrington Levy, Collie Buddz, Fiji, J-Boog, Katchafire, Iration, The Green, Anuhea, and Common Kings. Lujan & the Yard Stylee All-stars hailing from east Salinas and fronted by José Ramón Lujan III, a long time musician on the Californian reggae scene who is now working on a solo project 'LUJAN" a mixture of reggae roots and dancehall and the Pyrx Band from Chico who are described by High Times Magazine as having “A Fusion of Sublime and the Beastie Boys”.
The whole thing takes place between Friday 27th and Sunday 29th at Monterey Fairgrounds, Monterey, California, USA and there will be plenty of various food vendors, arts and crafts to keep people entertained between shows as well giant slides, bounce houses and face painting for the kids.
