UK's AMJ Collective revolves around the trio of drummer Andy Clarke, producer John Hollis and bass man Mark Spence. They describe themselves as less a band and more of an organization that explores different sonic paths from a dub perspective.
On their latest vinyl offering Heartbeat they have joined forces with dub Maestro Rob Smith, who by no means is a stranger to sonic adventures. He's probably best known for his work in Smith & Mighty and More Rockers, but is now working to create his own unique sound under the name RSD.
Heartbeat is based on a nyabinghi riddim and features horns and African flute. It's produced by John Hollis and mixed by Rob Smith. The flip-side collects a chilled steppers riddim with guest strings courtesy of Cuban trio Patricia Flechilla, Xotchil Lopez and Indira Perez.
Heartbeat drops as a double A-side 12" on March 16.
