U.S. singer, songwriter, producer and musician Jr Thomas developed a devotion to the sounds of Jamaica at an early age listening to smooth artists and vocal groups like The Bleechers, Phyllis Dillon and Alton Ellis.
These sounds are now reflected on his debut album Beware, which was recorded in Los Angeles together with a collective of Southern Californian musicians specializing in reggae from the late 60s and early 70s now known as The Volcanos.
“I wanted to make a record that was honest and true to the golden era of Jamaican music,” says Jr Thomas in a press release.
The album came about after discussions with producer Brian Dixon and Jr Thomas – who is from Minneapolis – later showed up to Dixon’s Volcano Lounge studio in Los Angeles ready start recording.
Beware drops on September 18 and is preceded by the sweet sounding single More Than Memories.
