Red Fox, a mainstay of the New York dancehall/reggae scene, maintains his status in the Big Apple with another hit.
He and fellow deejay Screechy Dan cover Horace Andy's 1970 classic, Skylarking, produced by longtime collaborator Sean Pizzonia for Sting International.
Pizzonia and keyboardist Steven 'Lenky' Marsden played the music which was originally done at producer Clement Dodd's Studio One.
"I laid a three eight bar vocal which brings difference to the song. I always love Skylarking, it's the first reggae song I can remember myself dancing to," said 45-year-old Red Fox. "It always gives me a good feeling."
He and Screechy Dan's version has entered reggae charts in New York and Florida.
Born Gareth Shelton in Jamaica, Red Fox migrated to the United States in the mid-1980s. He settled in New York City at a time when dancehall music was being embraced by hip hop fans.
His contemporaries on the New York beat included fellow Jamaican deejay Shaggy and Barbados-born singer Rayvon with whom he has often recorded songs.
One of Red Fox's biggest hits is Down in Jamaica, a 2010 song with singer Naturalie.
