Living in Las Vegas can be a risk. With a reputation as the gambling capital of the world, it has earned its unflattering title as 'Sin City'.
Roots singer Ras Kronik, who lives in Las Vegas, is not much into rolling dices or playing poker machines. He is more interested in making conscious reggae music.
Ras Kronik, who is from Clarendon parish in rural Jamaica, moved to Las Vegas six years ago. While not as vibrant as Los Angeles or other cities in neighbouring California, he said the reggae scene in his adopted hometown holds its own.
"It is vibrant in some areas and can be more vibrant if we have more unity within the reggae music scene. I do quiet amount of shows around Las Vegas in different venues across the Valley, like Lake Las Vegas and Baobab Stage."
His latest song is The Way to Life, inspired by the spate of domestic and terrorist events that have rocked major cities including Paris and New York in the last five years.
The Way to Life is produced by Patrick Anthony, a trumpeter who toured with UB40 for over 10 years.
"I would love it to be heard everywhere throughout the world," said Ras Kronik.
Anthony is also producing Wild and Free, Ras Kronik's second album which is expected to be released early this year.
His first album, The Real Thing Remix, came out in 2013.
