Boris Gardiner’s 'Every Nigger Is A Star', the OST for Calvin Lockhart's mysterious movie of the same name, is an extremely rare and hard to find album for reggae and funk aficionados alike. It is has eluded any official or unofficial re-release since 1974 but is now to see the light of day again on Jazzman.
The album is presented in its original format along with its original cover art. Musically the album contains some fine conscious Jamaican music, such as the deep acoustic cut of the title track to generously laced blaxploitation-style heavy funk on Ghetto Funk. Also featured is some sweet reggae to soul balladry plus a bit of carib-funk-jazz.
This album should prove to be an essential release for fans of funk, blaxploitation OSTs and reggae, with the CD release also coming equipped with detailed historical notes which finally clear up the mystery of the original film
